A 90-year-old woman was prevented from using a wheelchair in the emergency department of Cascais Hospital. The situation occurred when the patient needed to go to an appointment but was unable to use the support means available at the hospital.
The patient eventually managed to attend the appointment thanks to the intervention of a TVDE driver, who carried her to her destination. The driver decided to help the elderly woman after learning of the situation.
The incident raises questions about the access and mobility conditions provided to patients at Cascais Hospital, particularly for elderly people or those with reduced mobility. The inability to use a wheelchair represents a significant barrier for patients who depend on these aids.
