Prince of the Ghetto: son of Northeastern Brazilian migrants brings peripheral Brasília to Lisbon

Público29 August 2026 at 11:47

Brazilian artist Prince of the Ghetto, son of Northeastern migrants, brought the cultural expression of peripheral Brasília to the Festival Política in Lisbon, in its 10th edition. The event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese Constitution and dedicates special attention to the Brazilian presence and the diaspora.

The Brazilian presence at the festival addresses themes such as immigration, inequality, belonging, and marginalization. Artists and works explore the experiences of those living on the margins of society, both in Brazil and in the Portuguese diaspora.

Prince of the Ghetto represents the cultural production of Brasília's peripheries, a region marked by deep social inequalities. His participation in the festival highlights how peripheral Brazilian art is increasingly gaining space in international contexts.

The Festival Política in Lisbon serves as a platform for reflection on contemporary social and political issues, welcoming voices that are rarely heard in traditional cultural spaces.
