The Port Authority of Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde held the inauguration ceremony of the new Port Captain and Local Commander of the Maritime Police, Captain Frigate Nero Luis. The ceremony took place at the end of Friday morning, at Largo Dr. Vasques Calafate, in front of the headquarters of the maritime structure, marking the transition in leadership of the local maritime authority.
The inauguration was presided over by the Director-General of the Maritime Authority, Vice-Admiral Diogo Arroteia, and was attended by dozens of military personnel, political representatives from Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde, local entities and media outlets, highlighting the importance of maritime command in the region.
After the formal session, greetings between guests and institutional officials followed, culminating in a toast at the Port Authority headquarters, symbolizing the beginning of a new operational cycle under the leadership of Nero Luis.
The former Port Captain and Local Commander of the Maritime Police, Mónica Martins, who led the port authorities of the two municipalities in recent years, has now joined the directorate of the National Maritime Authority, also led by Vice-Admiral Diogo Arroteia.

A ex‑Capitão do Porto e Comandante Local da Polícia Marítima, Mónica Martins, que durante os últimos anos liderou as capitanias dos dois concelhos, integra agora a direção da Autoridade Marítima Nacional, presidida pelo vice‑almirante Diogo Arroteia.
