Chip manufacturers are outperforming big tech in the AI race

CNN Portugal28 August 2026 at 15:53

Chip manufacturers are outperforming big tech companies in the artificial intelligence race. Companies that manufacture the hardware, products, and services needed to build data centers are reaping the benefits of the massive investment being made in this area.

This phenomenon is due to the fact that the data centers needed to support AI applications require a massive amount of specialized chips and components. Thus, those who supply these essential materials are directly benefiting from this technological boom.

The big tech companies developing AI applications continue to invest heavily, but it is the hardware manufacturers that are seeing the biggest financial returns at this stage of the technology race.

Global coffee production falters after Colombia's earthquake and the arrival of the El Niño climate phenomenon

Global coffee production faces serious difficulties after the earthquake in Colombia and the arrival of the El Niño climate phenomenon. After two years of record production and historical prices, Colombia's coffee sector faces what experts define as a "perfect storm" of adverse factors. With climate change as the protagonist and the August 10 earthquake as the final blow, forecasts for this year indicate production of approximately 12.5 million bags, representing a decrease of 8% to 9% compared to the 13.7 million produced in 2025. Colombia, the third largest coffee producer in the world behind Brazil and Vietnam, and the main exporter of the arabica variety, concerns international markets, where global demand grows between 2.2% and 2.4% per year, driven by emerging markets such as China and the Middle East.
