The United States was considered the great beacon of democracy in the world, but with Donald Trump in power they became the reference for forces working to undermine it. The Trump administration abandoned traditional support for liberal democracies and the forces that represent them, both internationally and domestically.
On the domestic front, the administration launched attacks on judicial independence, press freedom, and the integrity of electoral processes, in an authoritarian drift that became evident.
This trajectory not only served to legitimize other populist right-wing forces in the world, but became part of the United States' national security doctrine, integrating into the country's official policy.
Support for ultra-conservative and illiberal forces has now become state policy, in a mission that involves both the White House and the set of organizations that comprise the MAGA movement.
