Portugal delivered to the European Commission the draft National Nature Restoration Plan. The document represents a milestone in Portuguese environmental policy within the framework of European commitments to recover degraded ecosystems.
The project results from work coordinated by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), which directed the entire plan development process. The coordination also involved the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, ensuring an integrated approach for the entire national territory.
To ensure scientific quality and the viability of the proposed measures, a Monitoring Committee was created. This committee was tasked with supervising and validating the different components of the plan throughout the development process.
The plan also benefited from the contribution of the Knowledge Network for Nature Restoration, a network made up of more than 200 researchers from across the country. This structure enabled the pooling of specialized knowledge from diverse areas to support the proposed restoration strategies.
