Nearly 500 people died during a pilgrimage to a sacred mountain in Tibet, in the Himalayan region. A wall of water and mud swept everything in its path, dragging all the faithful who were in the area.

The disaster was caused by the collapse of part of a glacier, which generated the wave of water and mud that rushed through the valleys of the region. The provisional toll indicates nearly 500 dead.

Many Hindu pilgrims were among the victims, making a pilgrimage to the sacred mountain when the catastrophe occurred. The article states that "they were all swept away" by the current.
