Scams involving "false accidents" caused accumulated damages of 72,540 euros to victims in the first half of 2026, a value close to the total registered throughout the entire year of 2025, which was 77,480 euros. The Guarda Nacional Republicana released these figures today.
Viseu is the fourth national district with the most occurrences of this type of scam, according to GNR data. Ahead of Viseu are the districts of Faro, Lisbon, and Porto, which occupy the top places in the ranking.
This type of scheme involves the simulation of accidents, generally traffic-related, with the aim of obtaining fraudulent compensation from insurance companies or from other victims. The scams cause damages to both insurance companies and the real victims involved in the schemes.
