"For now". Nepal refuses foreign aid and guarantees it is ensuring control of operations

RTP Notícias28 August 2026 at 12:10

Nepal refused, for now, foreign aid for search and rescue operations, guaranteeing it has its own means to conduct these operations. Kathmandu intends to maintain control of operations without international assistance.

Several countries offered teams to search for hundreds of missing people following the disaster. Among the countries that offered were China, India and South Korea, which expressed willingness to send rescue teams.

The Nepali decision to refuse external aid remains in place for now, although the situation may change depending on how events unfold and the needs that arise during search operations.
