Caldas das Taipas will commemorate the 300 years since the publication of the Aquilégio Medicinal, a 1726 work by Francisco da Fonseca Henriques that constitutes an important testimony on the knowledge of mineral and thermal waters in Portugal. The session begins at 2:30 PM, at Auditório Prof. Mário Rodrigues, at Escola Básica 2,3 das Caldas das Taipas, and is promoted by the Portuguese Academy of Water and Taipas Turitermas, with the institutional support of the Municipality of Guimarães.
The initiative brings together specialists, researchers and representatives of institutions related to water, heritage and thermalism, with proceedings moderated by Cristina Calheiros, Vice-President of the Portuguese Academy of Water. The programme is organized into two thematic panels, with presentations addressing the life and work of Francisco da Fonseca Henriques, the hydrogeology of Caldas das Taipas, and the importance of water quality.
One of the central moments will be the signing of a Collaboration Protocol between the Portuguese Academy of Water and Taipas Turitermas, which aims to strengthen cooperation between the two entities in promoting scientific knowledge, research and the enhancement of heritage related to water and thermalism.
The closing will be presided over by Maria do Rosário Norton, President of the Portuguese Academy of Water, followed by a musical performance by the University of Minho. The organization highlights that holding this initiative in Caldas das Taipas assumes special significance, given the strong thermal tradition of the town and the role its waters have played for centuries in the identity and development of the territory.
