Russian politician Nikolai Patrushev, a close associate of President Vladimir Putin, threatened to destroy Poland in two to three days. The threat arose in response to statements by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski about NATO's superiority.
Patrushev directly criticized Sikorski, considering his statements provocative and unacceptable. The Russian official took the opportunity to reinforce warlike rhetoric against NATO member countries, particularly those bordering Russia.
Tension between Russia and NATO's eastern flank countries has been significantly increasing since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Poland, as a NATO member and the eastern border of the Alliance, has been a frequent target of threats from Moscow.
This is not the first time that Patrushev, who holds a prominent position in the Russian administration, has issued threats against Western nations. His statements come in a context of rhetorical escalation between Russia and Western countries supporting Ukraine.
