Celso Bettencourt, president of the Municipal Chamber of Câmara de Lobos, defended this Tuesday that municipalities must assume direct responsibility in addressing housing problems. During his speech at the PSD/Madeira Parliamentary Sessions, Bettencourt stated that municipalities cannot exclusively refer the search for solutions in this area to the Regional Government.
The mayor also criticized JPP (Juntos Povo Pagou), questioning the party's stance and position regarding the housing issue. Bettencourt's intervention comes in the context of a broader debate about the responsibilities of each level of governance in solving housing problems in the Madeira region.
The PSD/Madeira Parliamentary Sessions thus serve as a stage for this discussion on the distribution of competencies and responsibilities between municipal chambers and the Regional Government, with Bettencourt defending a more active role for municipalities in the search for housing solutions.
