On September 19th, at 5pm, the training room of the Museu de Portimão hosts a 60-minute lecture that takes the audience on a journey through the Homeric poems. The event, organized by the Instituto de Cultura Ibero-Atlântica, aims to answer the question: "What can be said in 60 minutes about these two poems, each composed of 24 cantos, with 27,802 verses in total, the most striking of European culture?"
During the lecture, some of the themes and values present in the Iliad and the Odyssey, by Homer, will be addressed. The organization will select some characters and episodes and analyze how the epic poems were received over 2800 years, including Christopher Nolan's most recent film production.
The lecture will be delivered by Adriana Freire Nogueira, Associate Professor at the University of Algarve, integrated researcher at the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies at the University of Coimbra and collaborator at the Research Centre in Arts and Communication at the University of Algarve. She holds a degree in Classical Languages and Literatures from FLUL and was a Fulbright scholar at Cornell University in the United States.
She earned her doctorate from the University of Algarve, in the field of Literature, specializing in Literature and Classical Culture. Throughout her career, she held several management positions at the institution, including vice-president of the governing board of FCSH and director of the library. She also served as Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve for five years.
