Defesa de Espinho15 September 2026 at 16:35

The Municipality of Espinho will join the European Week of Sport, which will take place from September 23 to 30, with a diverse program of activities aimed at promoting physical exercise and bringing sport closer to the community. The initiative includes activities for children, youth, families, senior population and people with disabilities, occupying different spaces in the municipality.

The program includes various activities throughout the week. On the 23rd, at Praça Dr. José Salvador, there will be an afternoon of experiencing modalities such as Krav Maga Kids, Functional Training, Capoeira, Zumba, Yoga and Pilates. On the 24th, at Praia da Baía, there will be the Espinho Surfing Day for seniors and people with disabilities, with surfing initiation, safety and environmental workshops, and demonstrations by local athletes. On the 25th, traditional Portuguese games will be promoted for primary school students, and on the 26th and 27th, Espinho Fitness Racing and the 50+ Movement will take place, the latter with activities such as Laser Walk, Walking Handball and Volleyball 50+.

The President of Espinho City Council, Jorge Ratola, stated that the aim is for the Week to be "an invitation for community participation," highlighting that sport should not be seen only from a competitive perspective, but as a tool for health, inclusion and quality of life. The mayor also pointed out that the council is working on intervening in the municipality's sports facilities to create better conditions for athletes, clubs and the entire community.

Why this matters

Espinho residents have access to a whole week of free physical activities, adapted to different age groups and conditions, from children to seniors and people with disabilities. The program occupies public spaces in the municipality, offering modalities such as inclusive surfing, traditional games and fitness, bringing sport closer to the community. The Mayor also mentions that procedures are underway for intervention in the municipality's sports facilities, aiming for better conditions for athletes, clubs and the general population.
