Brazil is living its moment. Celebrities and a record number of tourists are flooding the country, dressed in green and yellow, and Brazilian culture, from funk to Oscar-nominated films, is conquering the world.
For decades, Brazilians complained that their country and culture were undervalued, in what became known as the "underdog complex". Now something has changed. There is talk of a wave of "caramel pride", celebrating the caramel-coloured mixed-breed dogs that have come to represent the country.
Many place the start of this change in 2023, with Brazilcore, a fashion trend that includes green and yellow. This wave of Brazilian pride represents a reversal of the negative perception that for years characterised the way Brazilians viewed their own country and culture.
