Bruno Henrique, Flamengo striker, remains under investigation by Common Justice due to an accusation of fraud, allegedly for having forced the obtaining of a yellow card to benefit bettors during a match in 2023. The case has been ongoing for some time and advanced significantly last week.
The player's defense appeal reached the hands of Minister Joel Ilan Paciornik, of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). The minister will be responsible for analyzing the appeal and, eventually, moving the case forward in the court. Bruno Henrique's defense attempts to argue that the accusation of fraud is not applicable in the case.
In sports justice, Bruno Henrique had already been convicted in November of last year, receiving an initial penalty of 12 games of suspension, which was later converted to a fine of R$ 100 thousand at the final instance. Additionally, he was also denounced by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT).
The case has already gone through the second instance in Common Justice before reaching the STJ, which is the court responsible for analyzing special appeals when there is divergent interpretation regarding federal law.
