Vila Isabel gives up combining two sambas and chooses Martinho's work as sole champion for the 2027 carnival

oglobo15 September 2026 at 15:21

Unidos de Vila Isabel backed down from its decision to bring two combined sambas-enredo to Carnival 2027. The school had announced in the early hours of last Saturday that it would present the merger of two compositions at Sapucaí, but after a meeting held this Monday between the direction, carnival designers and representatives of the school's carnival team, it was decided that only one work will be presented.

The chosen composition was authored by Martinho da Vila in partnership with Evandro Bocão and André Diniz. The change represents a complete reversal of the school's previous decision.

The initial decision to combine the two sambas sparked controversy. The event at the school's rehearsal hall, held last weekend, drew a packed crowd and generated debate among those responsible for the blue and white's carnival.

According to the report, most of the samba would be composed by Martinho da Vila's partnership, but the main chorus would come from the samba written by Paulo César Feital, Gustavinho Oliveira, Thales Nunes, Danilo Garcia, Júlio Alves, Marcelo Martins and Gabriel Simõ...

Why this matters

This matters to readers following Brazilian carnival culture because it resolves a controversy that divided samba enthusiasts and directly affects Vila Isabel's preparation for the 2027 parade. The decision impacts the school's creative direction and the work of multiple composers involved in the project.
