Since 2025, mpox virus transmission has been increasing in Portugal, according to data provided by the Directorate-General for Health.
The overwhelming majority of confirmed infections occur in men, representing 97.9% of all cases recorded in the country.
The average age of infected individuals is 35 years, indicating that the disease predominantly affects working-age adults.
The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region is the most affected, concentrating 66.7% of all mpox cases diagnosed in Portugal.
