Setúbal celebrated on September 15th City Day, which coincides with the 261st anniversary of the poet Bocage's birth. The Vice-President of the Municipal Council, Maria do Carmo Tiago, stated at the event held at the Municipal Forum Luísa Todi that the Executive took office only eleven months ago, but has a defined direction, a clear strategy, and a work plan in full execution.
In education, deeply transformative projects are underway, with a public investment of 91 million euros, in the requalification of the Secondary School of Bocage and the 2nd and 3rd cycle basic schools of Barbosa du Bocage, Aranguez, and Azeitão. These investments are joined by the construction of the School Centre of Quinta da Amizade and, in Azeitão, the integration of secondary education and the construction of a sports gymnasium.
Regarding housing, the council is completing the rehabilitation of neighborhoods in the municipal public housing stock and preparing to take advantage of financing opportunities to rehabilitate other neighborhoods and build new public housing. The mayor also highlighted two major commitments: the construction of the Setúbal Nautical Centre on the waterfront and the rehabilitation of the Carlos Relvas Bullring to create a multi-purpose facility.
The ceremony included the presentation of Honorary Medals of the City to 39 citizens and institutions that distinguished themselves in various areas, including musician Sérgio Mendes, the House of Poetry, the Recreational and Sports Center Ídolos da Praça, and the Mercearia Confiança de Troino. The celebrations program included various free activities, such as the flag-raising ceremony, a treasure hunt through the city center, visits to Casa Bocage, and the presentation of the XXIV Literary Prize Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage.
