Attempted homicide: Young man detained for suspected shots near nightclub in Santa Maria da Feira

NotíciasdeAveiro.pt15 September 2026 at 15:49

The Judicial Police, through the Northern Directorate, detained a 21-year-old man presumably responsible for three crimes of qualified homicide in attempted form, committed outside a nightclub in Santa Maria da Feira, on the morning of June 28. The man was also indicted for the crimes of damage with violence, possession of prohibited weapon and forgery or counterfeiting of documents.

The facts allegedly occurred after the suspect was escorted out of the nightclub for aggressive and disruptive behavior. Once outside, the young man went to his vehicle, from which he retrieved a 7.65mm caliber pistol, firing several times in the direction of establishment employees, at a distance of between 20 and 40 meters, while uttering death threats.

With this action in an area with a considerable number of clients, the suspect ended up hitting a young woman of approximately 17 years old, causing her injuries in the abdominal area. The shots, which hit the windows, the entrance door and the facade cladding of the building, caused a feeling of panic among the dozens of people present.

The young man fled the scene, remaining at an unknown location until very recently, when investigative efforts allowed for his identification and detention in the city of Porto. The detained individual, with criminal records for crimes against property, against physical integrity and drug trafficking, and with two suspended prison sentences, will be brought before the judicial authority for judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures.

Why this matters

This case directly affects the local community of Santa Maria da Feira, where a shooting occurred in a nightlife venue frequented by young people. The detention of the suspect brings some sense of security to residents and frequenters of the area, after weeks of investigation. The gravity of the crimes — including the injury of a minor — and the detained person's background alert to security issues in leisure spaces in the region.
