The official newspaper of the Vatican, L'Osservatore Romano, published a sizeable report denouncing the deaths of children in the Gaza Strip, where Palestinian minors are forced to bury thousands of children victims of the war. The sizeable report relates the rescue of 106 corpses from the rubble of a destroyed building, of which 73 belonged to minors.
Ahmad Alhendawi, regional director of the organization Save the Children, warned that humanity cannot accept that mass funerals of Palestinian children become an everyday reality, considering it impossible to continue passively watching international inaction. The reports from the Independent International Commission of Inquiry of the United Nations indicate that more than 20,000 children were murdered and 44,000 were injured between October 2023 and March 2026. It is also estimated that 17,000 minors live without any family reference and approximately 21,000 survivors have permanent disabilities caused by amputations.
The logistical paralysis and the continuous destruction of infrastructure worsened the availability of drinking water and boosted chronic malnutrition rates, which currently affect more than 12 percent of the population under five years of age. The regional director of Unicef, Edouard Beigbeder, stated that child health indicators progress when populations receive aid and commercial supplies, warning that the crisis scenario resurfaces rapidly with the imposition of blockades. The World Health Organization announced the suspension of fuel supplies to approximately 20 hospital facilities starting September 19, justifying the interruption with the exhaustion of financial funds.
