The Funchal Diocesan Seminary will host, on October 17 and 18, a retreat for couples entitled "Caring for the Family, Caring for Life", led by Professor Juan Ambrósio, a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of the Portuguese Catholic University. The event proposes two days of reflection, prayer, sharing and activities dedicated to caring for the conjugal relationship and the family.
The retreat programme addresses three major challenges. The "dignification of the home" will be explored based on the thought of the Venerable Monsignor Joaquim Alves Brás, the "revolution of tenderness and love" will take Pope Francis as its reference, and the "commitment to peace and humanity" will be considered in light of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV.
The retreat is open to all interested couples, including those with children, for whom dedicated activities will be provided during the moments when parents are involved in the programme. On Saturday, the meeting will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., including Mass and Eucharist celebrations.
The event is promoted by the Movement for a Christian Home, founded in Lisbon in 1959, and by the Secular Institute of Cooperators of the Family. The Movement, which has its roots in the pastoral action of Monsignor Joaquim Alves Brás in favour of the family, is present in several dioceses, including the Diocese of Funchal.
