The city of Guimarães prepares to host the Half Marathon on October 5th, with departure from Campo de São Mamede at 10 a.m. The race includes three main distances of 21, 10 and 5 kilometres, as well as a solidarity walk. The routes cross the historic centre of the city, passing through locations such as Largo Martins Sarmento, Largo do Toural and Alameda São Dâmaso, then diverging according to the chosen distance, with all participants converging at the finish line next to the Multiusos de Guimarães. The solidarity walk stands out for the reversion of half of the registration fees to a co-organizing institution.
The organization is composed of Guimarães City Council, Tempo Livre and the Braga Athletics Association, under the technical direction of João Paulo Alves. The godparents of the main race are Aurora Cunha and Manuel Mendes, while Sara Ferreira and Leonardo Oliveira are the godparents of RunKids, the children's race that takes place in the early afternoon next to the Multiusos Pavilion. The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
The event has an extended support system for participants, including a cloakroom at the start and finish, food support at the end of the race and physiotherapists on site, provided by Hospital da Luz and Clínica Unicare. The race will be broadcast live on the City Council's platforms and a giant screen next to the finish area.
Registrations are open until midnight on September 27th. Participants can collect their kits from October 2nd at the Multiusos Pavilion, in the case of registrations made through partners, or on October 3rd and 4th at Decathlon Guimarães, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., for all other cases.
