Stephen Colbert ended his 11 years as host of "The Late Show" winning the Emmy Awards for best variety program. The victory took place this Monday (14), in Los Angeles, at a ceremony where Colbert even campaigned for his friend and competitor Jimmy Kimmel in the category, who ultimately did not win.
The Emmy for Colbert is also interpreted as a message from Television Academy members to the industry and the American government. The host had his show canceled by the CBS network despite being the ratings leader among "late night" programs in the United States.
The network justified the cancellation as a financial decision. However, Hollywood has always highlighted the political nature of the choice, since Colbert has always been one of the main critics of Donald Trump's administration, defending free speech in his "late night" programs.
