The construction of a 100 million euro cruise ship inaugurated the third dry dock of the WestSea shipyards in Viana do Castelo. The SEFU ship was ordered by the Japanese group Ryobi Holdings and is scheduled for delivery in 2027. The contract launch ceremony took place in 2020, when the shipyards still belonged to the former ENVC, under the presidency of the then Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos.
The new dry dock number 3 represented an investment of approximately 24 million euros and is 220 meters long and 45 meters wide, allowing the shipyards to receive larger vessels. According to the Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo, this infrastructure constitutes a significant milestone that reinforces the capacity to support the naval industry and creates better conditions for larger and more complex operations.
The luxury cruise ship is approximately 110 to 120 meters long, 19 meters in beam and has a draft of about five meters. The vessel, which will operate mostly in Japan and Southeast Asia, has capacity for approximately 100 to 150 passengers. The contract fits within the strategic plan of the Martifer Group, enabling the sustainable development of the business and strengthening the export profile in differentiated added-value markets.
