The National Health Service (SNS) completed 47 years of existence, but the celebration was marked by a protest. The date also served as a warning about the current state of the public health system in Portugal.
Doctors highlighted that the main challenge of the SNS continues to be the retention of health professionals in the public system. The difficulty in retaining workers has been a constant concern in the sector.
According to professionals, the plans announced by the government for the coming years are not sufficient to solve the problem of staff shortages. This criticism comes at a time when the SNS faces multiple pressures.
The protest during the SNS anniversary reflects the growing discontent of health professionals with working conditions and human resources policies implemented in the system.
