Rúben Amorim revealed that he always knew he was not going to continue coaching in Portugal, stating that this decision was clear from the first day. The Portuguese coach was determined to take a one-year break from his career.
What made Amorim change his mind was Milan's interest. The Italian club was the only one that managed to convince him to abandon his plan to stop for a year and accept a new professional challenge.
Amorim left Sporting CP in March 2024 to coach Al Wahda, in the United Arab Emirates, but the experience at the Emirati club lasted only a few months. After this brief stint, the coach ultimately accepted Milan's proposal to lead the team in Serie A.
The signing of Amorim by Milan represented a return to the major European leagues, after having gone through an experience in the Middle East that did not meet the initial expectations.
