ECB calls on Europeans to vote on the future designs of banknotes, with deadline approaching

Euronews Portugal15 September 2026 at 12:23

The European Central Bank is inviting citizens across Europe to take part in choosing the new designs for future euro banknotes. The appeal comes at a time when the end of the public consultation launched to gather the opinions of European citizens on the topic is approaching.

The deadline for participation in the public consultation is 21 September, at which point the ECB will close the possibility for Europeans to contribute their preferences for the design of the new banknotes.

This initiative is part of a broader process of modernising the European single currency, allowing citizens to play an active role in defining the appearance of the banknotes they will use in the future. The ECB aims in this way to involve the population in the symbolic construction of the euro.

Why this matters

Readers have a limited window of opportunity to participate in the public consultation on the appearance of future euro banknotes. This vote is relevant to any European citizen who wishes to give their opinion on a tangible symbol of European identity. The article reports on a specific deadline approaching, so anyone who wants to participate should act soon.

Deco Proteste warns: lower income tax withholdings don't mean paying less tax. Bill may come later

Deco Proteste warned that the reduction in IRS source withholdings may leave more money available in salary in the final months of the year, but doesn't necessarily mean paying less tax. According to the consumer defense organization, taxpayers may have to settle accounts with the tax authorities when they file their annual IRS return, so they should be careful not to confuse immediate cash in hand with an actual reduction in tax burden.
