The Entity for Transparency does not know how many holders of high public and political offices are required to submit a statement of interests and income. This indefiniteness comes at a time when verifications of the current Government's statements are still ongoing.
The questions on this matter were raised after Luís Neves, former director of the Judicial Police, publicly admitted that he did not submit the statement of interests and income when he held that position.
The executive led by Luís Montenegro has not yet seen the verification process of its statements by the Entity for Transparency concluded, which raises doubts about compliance with legal obligations by members of the Government.
The situation highlights gaps in the control and monitoring system of mandatory statements by holders of public and political offices in Portugal.
