Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi and three other Albanian-Kosovar leaders are being tried for crimes committed during the war with Yugoslavia, between 1998 and 1999. The trial is taking place at a special court in The Hague, in the Netherlands.
Today the verdict will be read against these four defendants, in a process that has been followed with great expectation both nationally and internationally.
The conviction of the former President for war crimes may significantly increase tensions in Kosovo, a country that declared independence from Serbia in 2008 but whose sovereignty is still not recognized by Belgrade and by part of the international community.
