A survey conducted by YouGov in six European countries reveals that the majority of Europeans consider speaking a second language useful, although few can actually do so. The study shows major differences in linguistic fluency between the European countries covered.
The survey results also indicate significant variations in the motivation to learn foreign languages. While some countries demonstrate greater enthusiasm and dedication to learning, others present lower levels of interest in acquiring new language skills.
Regarding mandatory foreign language teaching, opinions also diverge considerably between the analyzed countries. Europeans do not seem to have a unanimous position on whether language learning should be mandatory in educational systems.
