The Public Prosecutor opened an inquiry into the national director of the Judicial Police, Carlos Cabreiro, and other officials, for alleged crimes of false statements and abuse of power. The investigation comes following a complaint filed with the Attorney General's Office related to the Football Leaks case, according to which Cabreiro allegedly made false statements in court by denying the existence of environmental wiretaps in the investigation into the Rui Pinto case.
The case involved the well-known "hacker" Rui Pinto, convicted in September 2023 to four years in prison with a suspended sentence for crimes of attempted extortion, aggravated violation of correspondence and unauthorized access. The case also involved Rui Pinto's former lawyer, Aníbal Pinto, also convicted in the case that investigated unauthorized access to entities such as Sporting, Doyen, PLMJ, the Portuguese Football Federation and the Attorney General's Office itself.
The complaint filed by Aníbal Pinto with the Attorney General's Office argues that internal PJ documentary evidence was found, namely a Mission Order and an External Procedure Report, confirming the carrying out of wiretaps authorized by Carlos Cabreiro in 2015. These wiretaps allegedly recorded a meeting between Aníbal Pinto, Nélio Lucas (owner of Doyen) and lawyer Pedro Henriques at a service area in Oeiras, a moment that was allegedly decisive for the identification of Rui Pinto.
Aníbal Pinto filed a complaint against Carlos Cabreiro and inspectors José Amador, Hugo Monteiro and Rogério Bravo, arguing that the documentation found is incompatible with the version presented in court. The lawyer requests the opening of a criminal inquiry for possible production of illegal evidence validated based on false testimonies, potentially involving crimes of denial of justice, misconduct, perjury, document forgery and abuse of power.
