Sintra Municipal Council registered 167 environmental fines related to illegal waste disposal since the beginning of the year. These infractions concern the inappropriate abandonment of waste on public roads, representing a significant environmental problem in the municipality.
Faced with this situation, the municipality decided to launch the "Sintra + Limpa" campaign, which aims to combat the illegal abandonment of waste. The initiative seeks to raise awareness among the population about the importance of using the municipalized waste management services.
The campaign focuses particularly on reducing the abandonment of bulky items, which are large objects such as old furniture and appliances, and green waste, such as pruning and gardening materials. These materials are frequently left on public roads inappropriately.
The main objective of the campaign is to inform residents about the free collection services available in the municipality, offering legal and convenient alternatives for the correct disposal of these materials, thus contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable Sintra.
