Popular football: Paulo Rodrigues may head a list for the elections

Defesa de Espinho15 September 2026 at 11:01

Paulo Rodrigues, an Espinho solicitor and owner of the Proativa company, may lead a candidate list for the elections for the governing bodies of the Association of Popular Football of the Municipality of Espinho. At the general assembly election held yesterday, September 14, no competing lists were presented.

During the meeting, only a proposal was presented by two members: Paulo Rodrigues and Ricardo Ferreira, a popular football player. Paulo Rodrigues expressed willingness to collaborate in finding a solution for the presentation of a list.

The solicitor will meet with the AFPCE clubs on September 25, presenting some ideas and opening space for more people to join the project. If consensus is reached with the clubs, Paulo Rodrigues may present a list at the general assembly election scheduled for September 28.

The clubs present at yesterday's meeting also decided to authorize the outgoing president, Margarida Oliveira, to proceed with payment to Cantinho da Ramboia and Leões Bairristas of the amount assigned by the Espinho City Council for these groups' participation in the Taça de Aveiro.

Why this matters

The leadership of AFPCE is at stake, which directly affects the popular football clubs and players of the Municipality of Espinho. The possibility of a new board led by Paulo Rodrigues represents a change in local sports governance, and the meeting on September 25 will be decisive in determining whether there will be opposition in the race for the elections on September 28.

Manchester City Player Advised Echeverri to Join Benfica

Rúben Dias, the Portuguese centre-back who plays for Manchester City, played a fundamental role in the signing of Claudio Echeverri by Benfica. Before proceeding with the deal, Benfica officials contacted the former Eagles defender to gather information about the young Argentine, specifically his professional commitment, training behaviour, integration into European football and the dressing room. Benfica also wanted to understand if Echeverri could meet Marco Silva's demands. Although the young Argentine had been followed by the club for quite some time, the process accelerated in the last days of the summer transfer window, after consulting Dias.
