The Socialist Party (PS) requested an urgent debate in the Assembly of the Republic on the rising cost of living in Portugal. The request was filed with the office of the President of the Assembly of the Republic on Monday morning, getting ahead of Chega, which had also requested a similar discussion on the same topic.
The PS's objective is to pressure the Government to quickly move forward with new measures to curb the impact of rising fuel, food, and housing prices. The socialists argue that Portuguese people need immediate help and cannot wait until January to feel some relief from the financial pressure they are facing.
The debate is expected to take place as early as next Friday, allowing the cost of living issue to be discussed in Plenary with the Executive present. The PS initiative comes at a time when inflation and the generalized rise in prices have been recurring topics of concern for Portuguese families.
