The metro and drainage works at Santa Apolónia station, in Lisbon, have not progressed one year after being announced by the Lisbon Municipal Council. Since July 2025, the municipality has communicated three times the start of the structural reinforcement intervention at the station, but the works never actually began.
The planned intervention is considered delicate and involves the structural reinforcement of the metro station, in addition to drainage work in the area. Due to the complexity of the work, the closure of Santa Apolónia station would be necessary for a period of eight months.
So far, no new dates have been announced for the start of the works. The Lisbon City Council has not provided any explanation for the successive postponements nor presented a new schedule for the execution of the intervention.
The situation leaves pending a work that directly affects metro users in Lisbon's eastern zone, keeping the modernization and safety plan for Santa Apolónia station's infrastructure in limbo.
