The Public Security Police carried out an inspection operation in the parish of Algueirão-Mem Martins, in the municipality of Sintra. The operation came following reports of the existence of illegal housing inside stores and the possible presence of children in situations of risk. The objective was to verify the operating conditions of the spaces, the conformity of licenses, and investigate any possible risk situations involving minors.
During the operation, authorities did not confirm evidence of children in situations of risk. PSP found that all identified children were enrolled in educational establishments, with the exception of a toddler. However, it was verified that at least one of the inspected establishments was being used as permanent housing by several citizens.
The documentation related to the inspection will be sent to the Sintra Municipal Council so that appropriate administrative and sanctioning procedures may be initiated. PSP will also communicate the facts to the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People with territorial jurisdiction for evaluation of the family context of the people involved.
The Foreigners and Borders Branch participated in the action, and it was confirmed that all identified citizens were in regular documentary status in the national territory, with no detected violations of the legal regime for the entry and stay of foreigners. PSP emphasizes that this type of inspection aims to contribute to the safety and sanitation of living conditions, as well as to prevent situations of human exploitation and urban risk.
