The Republican National Guard received operational reinforcement with a new vehicle and two police dogs specialized in detecting tobacco products. The equipment was donated by Tabaqueira in the Parish of Rio de Mouro, under an existing cooperation protocol between the two entities for the prevention and combat of illicit trade.
The delivery ceremony took place at the barracks of the GNR Intervention Unit, in Pontinha, Lisbon, and included the presentation of the new vehicle and its capabilities, as well as the formal handing over of the keys to the Cynotechnical Section of the Territorial Command of Porto. During the initiative, a canine demonstration was also carried out with the participation of the military personnel responsible for the training and monitoring of the animals.
The new police dogs, named "Rola" and "Remi", are both of the Dutch Shepherd breed and were specifically trained to detect the odor of tobacco products. The two animals are now joining GNR teams, constituting an operational reinforcement for territorial and specialized units in combating illicit trade of tobacco products.
