Sintra launches campaign to stop illegal dumping of bulky items and waste on the street

The Sintra City Council launched this Tuesday the "Sintra + Limpa" campaign to combat the illegal dumping of bulky items, green waste and other materials on public roads. The council warns that since the beginning of the year, 167 environmental fines have been issued for illegal dumping, emphasizing that residents should request free collection from parish councils or SMAS. The campaign, with the tagline "In Sintra there are no excuses," will be present in large commercial surfaces, in the press and in various points of the municipality. The Mayor, Marco Almeida, acknowledges that there is still a small number of people who do not respect the rules. Fines for illegal dumping can reach 22,000 euros. At the same time, the municipality is investing about 12 million euros in the acquisition of 39 vehicles for urban hygiene and has already installed 1,500 new recycling points.
