ADN Madeira considered it "politically unacceptable" that JPP continues to present new solutions for the maritime ferry connection between Madeira and the mainland without clarifying what happened to the agreement that Élvio Sousa announced to Madeirans as being "closed" in February 2025.
In a statement, the ADN Madeira party accused JPP of successively changing its discourse about the ferry. The initial position of JPP was a commercial solution without financial compensation, but later it started talking about searching for operators and new journeys.
This is not the first time the two parties have crossed paths on this issue. ADN had already announced, in February, that it would ask the regional government for explanations about the alleged agreement for the ferry, which demonstrates the continuation of this political dispute.
The party led by Élvio Sousa has been facing these criticisms of lack of credibility from ADN Madeira, which questions the consistency of the promises made to Madeiran citizens regarding this essential transportation infrastructure for the region.
