The Public Security Police carried out an inspection action in the parish of Algueirão-Mem Martins, in the municipality of Sintra, following reports about the operation of illegal housing inside shops and about the possible presence of children at risk. The intervention aimed to verify the conditions of operation of the spaces, the compliance of their respective licenses, and ascertain the existence of risk situations involving minors.
During the operation, no signs of children at risk were confirmed, with the PSP establishing that all identified children are enrolled in educational institutions, with the exception of a toddler. However, the authorities verified that at least one of the inspected establishments was being used as permanent housing by several citizens, a situation that prompted the preparation of documentation and inspection reports.
The documentation will be sent to the Sintra Municipal Council for the initiation of administrative and sanctioning procedures. The facts will also be reported to the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People with territorial jurisdiction for assessment of the family context of the people involved. The Foreigners and Borders Unit also participated in the action, with it being verified that all identified citizens were in regular documentary status, and no violations of the legal regime for the entry and stay of foreigners were detected.
