UTAD welcomed 43 international undergraduate and master's students in Enology and Viticulture from countries such as South Africa, the United States, Switzerland, and Brazil. The initiative is part of the university's Summer School and the European EU-GIFT Alliance, an international network that promotes exchange and collaboration between higher education institutions. During the welcome, lecturers Ana Barros and Paula Lopes highlighted the importance of this activity for UTAD's internationalization strategy.
The program included visits to iconic locations in the Douro region, such as UTAD's Eco-Campus and the São Leonardo de Galafura Viewpoint, where students were able to appreciate the landscape of the Douro Wine Region. The practical component also included visits to renowned wineries, including Quinta de Seara d'Ordens and Quinta do Vallado, providing students with the opportunity to observe traditional viticulture and enology techniques.
Participants showed great enthusiasm for the experience, which allowed them to enrich their academic knowledge and strengthened the perception of the Douro as a region of excellence in viticulture and enology. The initiative reinforces UTAD's commitment to training qualified professionals and promoting Portuguese viticulture culture globally.
