Freight transport companies in Portugal are already raising prices to survive the rise in diesel prices, a situation ANTRAM describes as having a "brutal" impact. The association warns that Portuguese transport companies are losing competitiveness compared to Spain, anticipating greater pressure on the sector in the North of the country.
In passenger transport, ANTROP estimates additional costs of 16 million euros, related to the fuel price increase. The association says some companies are already resorting to loans to pay their employees' salaries.
The distribution sector also expresses concern and warns that price pressure should reach supermarkets in about a month, as transportation costs work their way through the supply chain.
