The week of September 14 to 21 should pass practically without rain in mainland Portugal, with residual precipitation only in the extreme Northwest and without any measurable value in the Center and South of the country. According to the Meteored portal, the ECMWF forecast shows practically zero precipitation values across the territory in general until the beginning of Monday, September 21.
The contrast is in the North Atlantic, where deep depressions are expected from Wednesday, September 16. However, the position of the jet stream, which remains north of the Iberian Peninsula, means that Atlantic fronts follow at higher latitudes, not reaching Portuguese territory.
From Thursday, September 17, and until the end of the week, these depression systems should pass relatively close to western Europe, but the fronts will continue to circulate north of Portugal. The Meteored portal highlights that the passage of these depressions may temporarily weaken the high-pressure structure, but should not be sufficient to change the dry pattern in the country.
The Azores Anticyclone, with pressures above 1030 hPa until Tuesday, September 15, and the upper-level ridge that should strengthen again at the end of the week, are the main responsible for the atmospheric stability that will prevent any significant frontal entry in mainland Portugal until September 21.
