During Monday afternoon, thousands of customers from several operators in Portugal experienced failures in Internet access and mobile network. The problems affected a large number of users across the country, who reported connection difficulties for several hours.
MEO subsequently clarified that it was the target of a "mass attack". The operator revealed the nature of the threat that allegedly caused the service failures that affected its systems and those of other operators.
The company guaranteed that, despite the attack, there was no access to customer data. This information was provided by MEO as a way to reassure users who may have been concerned about the security of their personal information.
The incident highlighted vulnerabilities in the communications infrastructure in Portugal, although the failures were limited to Internet access and mobile network, without compromising the integrity of consumer data.
