Two off-duty military police officers were killed in Rio de Janeiro in less than 48 hours. The first case happened on Sunday dawn in Senador Camará, in the West Zone, when Corporal José Luiz Porto Junior, 42, assigned to the 14th BPM (Bangu), was killed. A man identified as the perpetrator of the shots was arrested hours later.
The second crime occurred yesterday afternoon, near a shopping mall in the center of São Gonçalo, in the Metropolitan Region. The victim was Corporal Rayllan Machado Carino, 36, assigned to the 1st BPM (São Gonçalo).
After being shot, Rayllan was rescued by PMs from the 1st BPM and taken to the Central Emergency Room, in the Zé Garoto neighborhood, but did not survive the injuries. The perpetrators of the shots managed to flee the scene.
The PM Command mourned the police officer's death and stated that the occurrence was handled by the competent authorities.
