NotíciasdeAveiro.pt15 September 2026 at 00:07

The municipalities of Estarreja, Ovar and Murtosa jointly organized an activity called "Discovering the 'Ria Adentro' territory" to celebrate World Tourism Day. The initiative took place on September 27.

The activity proposes a discovery of the common territory shared by these three municipalities, which is characterized by "memories, knowledge, heritage and unique landscapes," according to the organizers.

The event was promoted by the municipal councils of these three localities in the Aveiro region, which share a common territorial space related to the Ria Formosa or a similar riverside area.

The information was shared through municipal social media, with the content originally published on NoticiasdeAveiro.pt.

Why this matters

Readers from the Aveiro region can participate in this free discovery activity of the ria territory, which promotes local tourism and enhances the natural and cultural heritage common to the three municipalities, strengthening regional identity and encouraging visits outside the high season.

Africa is not Las Vegas: the "new" jihadism

The article analyses the growing jihadist threat in Africa, arguing that the continent is becoming a new stronghold of Islamic extremism, similar to what Afghanistan once was. The author suggests that September 11 was partly the result of a failure of imagination by Western intelligence services, which could not conceive that a group so far away could carry out an operation of such magnitude. Now, Africa presents similar dynamics, with groups such as Boko Haram and other movements affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State exploiting state fragility, poverty and local conflicts to expand, demanding an urgent reassessment of global security priorities.

BRICS and the new global order

The 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi demonstrated that the group has evolved from an economic acronym to a negotiation platform for the world order. The approved Declaration advocated for reform of the UN Security Council and international financial institutions, and condemned protectionism. In the economic field, the trend is towards reducing dependence on the dollar through national currencies, in a pragmatic and non-revolutionary process. Technological cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital economy also marked the agenda. Despite internal divergences between India and China, and conflicts involving Russia and Iran, the group reached consensus on the Middle East, food and climate security. The article concludes that Europe should recognize the BRICS as an actor of multipolarity, especially in a context where traditional allies like the US seem to disrupt European balances.

Twinning: Delegation from Goiânia returns to Aveiro as guest city for municipal holiday

The Brazilian municipality of Goiânia will be the "guest city" at the Aveiro municipality's festivities in 2027, as part of the twinning between the two cities, whose ratification protocol was sent to the Aveiro Municipal Assembly scheduled for September 21. The Aveiro delegation, led by Luís Souto, visited Goiás in March, followed by the return visit in May with the presence of Goiânia representatives at the city's festivities. The mayor of Aveiro highlighted that the twinning reflects an existing reality of investors from Goiânia already contributing to the local economy. It is estimated that around 60,000 Brazilians reside in the district of Aveiro, of which 13 to 16 thousand in the city.
