"Economia de Exílio": Pedro Santana Lopes's Literary Suggestion

Now14 September 2026 at 23:28

Pedro Santana Lopes was the guest on the NOW program to present this week's literary suggestion. During the broadcast, the politician recommended that viewers read the book "Economia de Exílio," authored by Ben Chu.

Santana Lopes justified his choice by describing the work as a great reflection on protectionism and its consequences. The politician considered it to be a very interesting book, reinforcing the recommendation to the audience.

The choice of a book about protectionism may be related to the current economic context, although the article does not delve into Santana Lopes's personal reasons for this literary selection. The NOW program thus maintains the tradition of inviting public figures to share their reading recommendations with viewers.

Why this matters

Santana Lopes, a well-known public figure in Portugal, uses his media presence to recommend works he considers relevant, influencing his audience's cultural choices. The recommended book addresses protectionism, a topic with direct implications for the Portuguese and European economy.

Aveiro gives shape to Saudade

In Aveiro, last Saturday saw the participatory intervention "A Saudade that Ties", integrated into RIA 2026 – Streets of Artistic Intervention, held near the Mercado Manuel Firmino. Participants were invited to think of something or someone they felt Saudade for and to choose a ribbon – red for a Saudade that could still be "killed," white for one that was no longer possible – and place it on a metal structure designed as a map. The initiative came from Dalila, a designer and researcher native to Aveiro who grew up in Germany, and is the result of her project "Anatomy of Saudade," initially developed during her master's at the University of Aveiro. The goal was to invite the people of Aveiro to find a place for what they feel Saudade for, transforming a common gesture in the city – ribbons on bridges – into artistic material.
