So far, Eduardo Paes and Douglas Ruas have spent around 20 million on their campaigns for the state government of Rio de Janeiro. The two candidates, who have a limit of R$ 17,788,806.16 to use in the first round, used resources mostly from their respective party funds, mobilizing few donations from individual supporters. The third contender for Guanabara Palace with the most revenue is former governor Anthony Garotinho, with R$ 1,148,764.18. Together, the three concentrate more than 96% of the resources at stake in this year's state election.
According to the partial campaign financial reports, which had to be submitted by Sunday, Douglas Ruas was the biggest spender. He declared having used R$ 12,417,923.82 out of the R$ 18,338,000.00 he has already raised. The main expense, so far, was for advertising agencies, responsible for his videos and other campaign materials. Altogether, he transferred R$ 1 million to the company D26 Comunicação, opened in June of this year, and another R$ 1 million to another company not specified in the article.
