The insurer Hiscox confirmed that the transfer of activities and employees to technology company Genpact is part of a "planned transformation of the operational model" focused on efficiency and better allocation of resources. The partnership covers only certain administrative activities in the areas of Policy Administration, Claims Administration and Credit Control, not altering, according to the company, its commitment to Portugal or its presence in Lisbon.
The position of Hiscox comes after the National Union of Insurance and Related Professionals called a strike and a demonstration in front of the insurer's facilities in July. The union contested the move to outsourcing, alleging the loss of labor rights for approximately 90 workers, including the end of free family health insurance, company-paid sick leave days, and guarantees from the collective labor agreement for the insurance activity.
The company reiterated that the transfer was the only change announced, with the objective of creating a more efficient structure capable of continuing to grow. Many of the employees involved will continue to provide support to Hiscox through the partnership model with Genpact, with no changes to contacts, processes or service channels for clients and brokers.
In parallel, Filipe Homem, who held the position of Interim Managing Director since January, announced his departure after nearly 15 years at the company, as did Nerea de la Fuente, Head of Underwriting in Spain, who left after more than 14 years. The operation in Portugal continues under the leadership of Emérico Gonçalves, coordinated with the direction of Javier González for the Iberian region, with the company maintaining prospects for sustainable and profitable growth for 2026.
